Privacy Policy

1. The short version

VibeType comes in two versions. This policy covers both and always says which is which. It covers VibeType itself, and not any third-party service you choose to connect to it, which stays governed by that service's own policy.

• VibeType for Mac does the work on your own computer. Your audio and your text stay there.
• VibeType Speech to Text for iPhone needs the internet to turn your speech into text. This policy says what happens to what it sends.
• We never store what you say or what you write. Not the audio, not the text.
• Your dictation history and your vocabulary live on your device.
• No advertising, no tracking, no analytics companies. We do not sell your data.

2. VibeType for Mac

Speech recognition and text clean-up both run on your own machine. Your audio, your transcripts, your history and your vocabulary stay on your Mac. We cannot see what you dictate or how often you use it.

The app goes online for account and update checks, and to download the model files it needs — none of this carries anything you have said.

If you choose to connect your own AI provider key, text you dictate is routed through your own account with that provider, at your instruction. How that provider handles it is governed by your agreement with them, not by this policy. This is off unless you turn it on.

3. VibeType Speech to Text for iPhone

Your voice. When you finish a dictation, your recording is uploaded to Deepgram, the service that turns speech into words.

It goes directly from your phone to Deepgram. It does not pass through VibeType's servers on the way. This is not a promise about what we choose to do with it; it is how the app is built. Our service issues your phone a pass that is valid for a single dictation, and your phone uses that pass to talk to Deepgram itself. There is no route through our systems for audio to take.

We do not store your recording. It exists in your phone's memory while you are speaking and is discarded once the words come back. It is never written to your phone's storage and never reaches us.

Deepgram may keep part of what it receives to improve its own speech models, under its own privacy policy.

Your words. Once your speech has become text, that text reaches VibeType's own service to be turned into finished, punctuated writing, which involves an AI language model. It is held only for the moment that takes. It is never logged or kept.

What stays on your phone. Your dictation history and any edits you make to it, the words you have taught it, and your statistics. None of this is sent anywhere, which also means we cannot recover it for you. Deleting it in Settings deletes it.

4. What we store

Three things.

• An account. On Mac it is your email address and an identifier for your installation.

  On iPhone, when you first open the app, an account is created for you automatically, with no sign-up and nothing to fill in. Until you sign in, it is a random identifier and nothing more.

  If you sign in with Apple, we store your email address against a new account. Apple lets you hide your real address, and if you do, the forwarding address Apple gives us is the only one we ever see. Deleting your account deletes the address with it.

  Apple may also tell the app your name, once, the first time you sign in. That stays on your phone so the account screen has something to show. It is never sent to us and we do not have it.

• Enough usage to run your plan. On iPhone we track a weekly word count, so the free weekly allowance can work. A small number of words are available before you are asked to sign in, and they are part of the same allowance rather than a separate one. On Mac, whether your trial or subscription is still active.
• A word count that outlives a deleted account. A scrambled identifier and a number, kept so that deleting an account cannot be used to reset the free allowance. See “Delete your account” below for exactly what this is.

That is everything. We do not store your name, your contacts, your location, or anything you have said.

5. Who else is involved

Turning speech into finished writing takes a few specialist services. Each one receives only what it needs to do its part, and each operates under its own privacy policy.

• Speech to text. Deepgram receives your recording, sent directly from your phone, and may keep part of it to improve its own models. It does not pass through VibeType's service on the way.
• Our service and the AI model. The providers that host them receive the text, for the moment it takes to process it.
• Our database. The provider that hosts it stores your account identifier, your email address once you have signed in, and your usage count.
• Apple. Receives only what you choose to share, if you use Sign in with Apple.
• Payments, on Mac. Our payment provider handles Mac subscriptions and licences. We never see or store your card details. The iPhone app sells nothing and has no payment provider.

We do not keep your audio or your text at any point, and the providers that handle the text are required not to collect it or train on it. None of these providers receives anything for advertising.

6. Microphone and Full Access on iPhone

The orange dot. iOS shows an orange dot whenever the microphone is active. VibeType may keep the microphone open while the app is ready to dictate. Nothing is recorded until you press the dictation button. While the dot is lit and you have not pressed it, no audio is kept or sent anywhere. You can turn this off at any time under Ready to dictate in Settings.

Full Access. iOS requires Full Access for any keyboard that reaches the internet or talks to its own app. VibeType uses it for exactly one thing: to send your dictation and receive the finished text back. It is not used to read what you type on other keyboards, and nothing you type elsewhere is collected, stored or transmitted.

7. Your choices

• Delete your history and vocabulary. In the app's settings. It is removed from your device immediately, and there is no other copy.
• Delete your account. In Settings on iPhone. On Mac, contact us and we will remove it. Your account is permanently deleted straight away, along with your email address and everything attached to it. Anything held on your device is not touched by this, so clear your history separately if you want it gone as well.

  One thing survives, and only one. We keep a scrambled version of the identifier Apple gives us for you, and the number of words you have used. It holds no name, no email address and nothing you have said, and it cannot be turned back into your Apple ID. It exists for one reason: without it, deleting an account and signing up again would hand out a fresh free allowance every time, and there would be no free plan to give anybody. If you sign in again with the same Apple ID, your word count carries on from where it was.

• Stop the microphone being held open. Turn off “Ready to dictate” in Settings on iPhone.
• Sign out. In Settings on iPhone. A small number of free words are available without signing in; beyond that, you will need to sign in to keep using the app.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, data protection law gives you the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to receive a copy of it, and to object to how we use it. Write to us and we will act on it within the time the law allows. If you are in the UK, the EU or the EEA and you are not satisfied with how we have handled a request, you also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

9. Children

VibeType is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly create accounts for anyone under 13.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change how any of this works, we will change this page and update the date at the top. Material changes will be announced in the app.
